2022 was a year in which Cadium Music included plenty of co-writes for artist releases. It also included further expansion with Alternator Records and its publishing company, Vegan Vulcan Music.
Among some of the writer highlights, Curtis Martin continued his work with Ekoh and Rachel Lorin, as well as co-writing and handling some production on the Ookay album, Very Special. Martin also had success co-writing and producing Catch Your Breath’s song, “Dial Tone,” which led to the band’s deal with Thriller Records. Rob Endling continued his work with developing artist, KD Badlung, while Sean Kennedy also had c0-writes with Ekoh and Lorin.
The party never seems to stop with these guys. The band grew its audience to a wider demographic this year. Maybe it was due to the exposure they received from CMT and The Country Network with their video, “Missing Carolina” – or maybe not. Either way, the proof that their fanbase had evolved became abundantly clear at Tampa, Florida’s 99.5 QYK Guitar Pull in November when the band opened for acts including Jimmie Allen and Lainey Wilson. The audience, which came to see the headliners, was so convivial during SB75’s set that the event’s promoters were concerned that the crowd reaction (and the band’s set) might end up being the pinnacle moment of the evening. (Editor’s Note: It all worked out in the end.)
Building on the momentum from Guitar Pull, the guys went into the studio with producer, Jimmy Ritchey, to record “That Summer,” a new song written by Mark Lorenzo. Word has it that the track will be released early next year.
Alternator Records/Vegan Vulcan Music
Writer/Producer/Mixer, Michael James, officially set up his publishing company, Vegan Vulcan Music. It’s possible that VVM will also sign writers, especially the ones he collaborates with. Cadium will be handling the administration for the publisher.
On the label side, James has been writing and recording for most of the year, with some of the music coming out on Alternator Records (new website also coming out soon) in 2023. Releases include tracks from upstart, Nate Hendrix, and relative newcomer, Colin Keenan. All of Alternator releases are mixed by James in Dolby Atmos.
