Southbound 75 to Reach a New Level in Its Career

One of the silver linings of the COVID pandemic is that not all states have consistently locked down their bars and live music venues. If you speak to live acts in California, for example, many will tell you that they are not happy being cooped up in their living spaces and not being able to unleash their creativity in front of their fans. Due to Florida guidelines, however, the state has allowed country rockers Southbound 75 to reach a new level in its career. In case you haven't been following the story, Florida has a different attitude toward quarantines and lock downs. And [...]

Sixlight Composes Ads for Lexus

Sixlight Productions, the duo of Curtis Martin and Rob Endling, has broken into the world of composing, which is never an easy thing to do. As a publisher who has represented composers with much more experience than Curtis and Rob, it’s encouraging to see people in the film world recognize the duo based on their track record. And Martin and Endling did it with a bang: Sixlight composes ads for Lexus. I have worked with Rob and Curtis for over a year now and watched them (from a distance) turn out some amazing work, only to have life get in the way and [...]

Southbound 75 Debuts Its First Video

Image from The Country Network clip of Southbound 75's "Not Ready to Say I'm Sorry Yet" Since signing to Bill McDermott's Roxy Entertainment Group, Southbound 75 debuts its first video, July 15. "Not Ready to Say I'm Sorry Yet" will premiere on The Country Network. The video intends to add momentum to the Tampa, Florida-based country rockers, who recently played a live show in front of a live audience (but safely, of course). Hopefully the video will lead to more social-distanced performances in the near future. The period of the initial lockdown allowed the band more time to prepare the video [...]

Piel Releases “Easy As It Feels”

On the heels of their latest track, "Custodian," Piel releases "Easy As It Feels" as a short film. British actors, Adam Fielding and Poppy Lee Friar produced the video. The tandem took lead singer Tiki Lewis’ very personal lyrics and created a vignette that offers hope through harrowing times. Friar directed the clip. ACTORS MOVE BEHIND THE CAMERA Fielding and Friar may not be very well known in the U.S., but in their native England, they have quite a track record.  Friar's role as Jayne Torvill in “Torvill and Dean” is one of several of her stand-out performances. Both actors were in the [...]

Tiny Desk Judges Discuss Piel

This past Thursday (6/24), NPR's Tiny Desk series, "Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf," showcased five more finalists, one of them being Piel. The YouTube live stream included discussion by Tiny Desk's Bob Boilen and World Cafe's Raina Douris. The Tiny Desk judges discuss Piel at some length on the live stream. It included one other band, a rapper, a yodeler and an R&B solo artist, so it was a diverse group of acts on the bill. Piel was the fourth act to be discussed. The Boilen-Douris tandem did a great job discussing the band, but it was Douris who took the reigns when [...]

Piel to Join the “Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf” Series

Jonathan Burkes (aka Jawnee), co-founder and bassist of Piel, had the instinct to throw the band's hat in the ring for this year's Tiny Desk contest. This led Piel to join the "Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf" series for 2020, selected by the contest's judges. The band will be discussed this Thursday June 25, noon Pacific/3pm Eastern. From an A&R perspective, there are very few acts that have the goods to go on to have a successful music career, but as a former NBA head coach once said about talent, "there's plenty to go around." Still, to make it this far in a [...]

The Invigorating Sounds of Piel

I was introduced to the invigorating sounds of Piel at a Hunnypot show in 2015. When I heard songs, such as “C.O.A.T” and “Babble On,” I was struck by the fact that I couldn’t easily categorize the band’s sound, which is a good thing. It had elements of rock, EDM and wisps of R&B – not a combination you hear very often. Still, the songs had a commercial radio quality to them, which could easily lead to surefire hits. I also thought to myself that this band should be signed to a label and marketed to modern rock radio. Not working with any [...]

Cadium Music Adds A&R to Its Services

For those who don’t know, my background is in A&R, both in the talent acquisition arena, as well as finding songs for artists. For years I have come across great talent, talent that had the potential to become national, if not global acts, only to watch them die on the vine, partially due to lack of exposure. Maybe I could have allotted a little more time to these acts, but as a publisher, my focus and attention was largely devoted to my writers. With this in mind, Cadium Music adds A&R tastemaker to its services. And the focus and attention of A&R will [...]
