The Lack of Song Quality in Today’s Rock Acts

Gene Simmons continues to claim that rock is dead. The ongoing dialogue by Simmons and others on this topic fascinates me, because the lack of song quality in today's rock acts rarely, if ever, enters the          conversation in this debate. In an article in Metal Injection by Greg Kennelty, Kennelty takes on Simmons' point of view on the life or death matter, and while I don't believe that fans killed the genre due to streaming, a Simmons opinion, some subscribers to Metal Injection offered their reason for the lack of dominance in the genre. While I respect some of [...]

Cadium Music’s 2021 Year-End Wrap and What’s Next

Admittedly, this post should have come earlier in the quarter. Instead of a close look at what transpired over the last few months, this piece has morphed into becoming Cadium Music's 2021 Year-End Wrap. The year got off to a fast start with the signing of writer and Rikets frontman, Scott Rose. COVID-19, however, continued to interrupt the creative process and the production of the new Rikets album, which included potential collaborations with Mark Lorenzo, got shelved. Southbound 75 Continue to Rise Southbound 75, continued to build its base in south Florida and finally released Tales from the Black Swamp through Bad Jeu [...]

Piel Has a Release Date

After some jockeying around to find a time to put out the record, Piel have a release date and it's December 10. The album is A.K.A. Ma. Piel signed to Birs Recordings earlier this year. The New York label is known for releasing records on 180 gram, high-quality vinyl. In the ensuing days and weeks after the signing announcement, it was assumed by many involved that the release date would easily be scheduled for this year, but with the heavy demand for vinyl, the pressing plant contracted by the label wasn't even sure it would be able to press the records by the [...]

Piel Signed to Birs Recordings

About a year ago, I decided to add an A&R/tastemaker service to the Cadium operation. The first act I decided to champion was Los Angeles band, Piel. After a few diversions along the way, I'm happy to say that Piel signed to Birs Recordings. The record, which is actually a six-song EP, has been completed and should be released in the fall. Shortly after announcing the A&R service in June of last year, I wrote about Piel and the hope that the band would release new material in 2020, but that didn't happen. What happened was COVID. Deal Tabled, Then Revived In September [...]

Client, Michael James, has a few developments happening on his end and among them, an administration deal between his newly minted publishing company, Vegan Vulcan Music and Cadium Music. Publishing and Records James has completed a new album and intends to grow VVM through the various co-writes he has on it. The new album will be called Shelter In Place. Two Mixes by Michael James for Chuck Leavell Documentary

Michael James mixed two Eric Church songs that are in the just-released film documentary "Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man." Leavell, the legendary pianist/keyboardist whose career spans five decades and includes work with The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers Band, Eric Clapton and John Mayer, to name a few, is revealed as more than a musician; he is also a custodian of the environment with commitment to family. (Coinciding with his environmental efforts, Leavell is co-founder of one of the most informative websites on the environment, Mother Nature Network.) James came into the project through the film's director, Allen Farst, who has hired James [...]

Southbound 75 to Reach a New Level in Its Career

One of the silver linings of the COVID pandemic is that not all states have consistently locked down their bars and live music venues. If you speak to live acts in California, for example, many will tell you that they are not happy being cooped up in their living spaces and not being able to unleash their creativity in front of their fans. Due to Florida guidelines, however, the state has allowed country rockers Southbound 75 to reach a new level in its career. In case you haven't been following the story, Florida has a different attitude toward quarantines and lock downs. And [...]
